How to choose a speaker without error?
Compartilhar
What we will cover in this post is a way to minimize errors when purchasing a loudspeaker.
Some important points need to be addressed so that we can identify the best product for your profile.
- What is the purpose of the Loudspeaker?
- What is the size of the room where they will be placed?
- Will they be placed inside a Niche (Shelf)? In this case, this defines a speaker with a front port.
- What is the available budget for purchasing the Loudspeaker? This information is important as it helps us recommend a product that meets both your sound and financial expectations.
These are the main points to be addressed initially, and by answering each of them, we can somehow understand what the customer is looking for, and sometimes it's not always what they have in mind.
Addressing the answer to the first question:
- Listening to Music in Stereo
- For Home Theater
Of course, these are loudspeakers and theoretically should work well for both needs, but this doesn't always work out well.
For stereo listening, other information is required to define what type of loudspeaker will be offered.
- Room Size
- Type of Equipment (Vintage - Integrated or Receiver, Tube, More modern Integrated or even Monoblocks) Depending on the equipment, we can already filter the type of loudspeaker. For a Vintage setup, listeners look for relatively large speakers or those with a vintage look to match the visual aesthetic. For a Tube Amplifier, they are usually low power, and loudspeakers with excellent efficiency are recommended; we are talking about speaker sensitivity. We cannot definitively state a minimum sensitivity for a Tube amp; it will depend on the musical style and even the auditory profile, for example, low to medium volume. And usually, this is the profile, without much volume for listening. For more modern equipment, speakers are usually chosen for their level of detail and precision in their frequencies, a more refined requirement.

- What type of Loudspeaker (Hi-Fi - Large Speakers from 6" 1/2 - 3-way, Towers or Bookshelf) In the previous item, the approach gives us a direction, but we still need customer information to filter the best product.

For Home Theater, it is important to know what the customer is looking for in their system configuration. For example, a 5.1, 7.1, or Dolby Atmos 5.1.2, 5.1.4 system, and of course, what types of speakers they are looking for their system.
Bookshelf or Tower options for the Front, and depending on the size of the room, the Center with 2 or 4 speakers to compose the system.
The subwoofer depends on what the customer expects from bass response, ranging from 10" up to 18", always evaluating the space and placement of the loudspeaker in their environment.

We have addressed some initial points to offer an adequate product to the customer, always assuming that this customer already has the necessary equipment.
Another profile that has grown significantly is the Home Studio, which basically uses compact loudspeakers connected to a PC/Notebook, and for this world, there are other points to consider.
- Active Bookshelf
- Passive Bookshelf
- External Amplifier
- External DAC
- External Sound Card

See the amount of information needed to filter the best product for this customer profile, and sometimes the customer themselves doesn't have this information, yet we extract the maximum amount of information to meet their expectations.
These are points that we initially address with our customers so that we can select the best product and minimize errors when purchasing a loudspeaker.
